Ruled by the congregation, led by elders, served by deacons
Klein Baptist Church is an elder-led, congregationally ruled church. The elders (also called pastors) teach and provide spiritual oversight and direction to the church. The congregation has the final say in matters of membership, doctrine, electing leaders, and finances. The Scripture teaches that churches should ordinarily be led by a plurality of qualified men. The elders, whether paid by the church or not, work together in teaching and providing leadership to the church. Deacons encourage the unity of the church by coordinating specific areas of the church’s ministry and life together.
Elders
Kyle Newcomer, Staff Pastor
Kyle was raised in a Christian home and came to faith in Christ through the ministry of his parents and other faithful teachers at his church. He is an alumnus of Texas A&M University (2002) and Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia (2006). Before pastoring Klein Baptist Church, he served as the pastor of Mills Road Baptist Church and as a lay elder at New Life Baptist Church in College Station, Texas. He has been married to his best friend, Lindsay, since 2006, and they have four kids.
Kyle serves our church as the primary preacher. He gives the bulk of his time to preparing sermons, ordinarily through books of the Bible, trusting that the Lord will work through his Word to save sinners and to form his people into the image of Christ.
John Young, Pastor
Along with Kyle Newcomer, John is one of the founding pastors of Klein Baptist Church. He is a sinner saved by grace who was raised in a loving home in Caldwell, Texas. However, it wasn’t until his college years at Texas A&M that he considered the claims of Jesus Christ for the first time. John graduated from Texas A&M in 1990, with a BA in Communication, and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008 with an MA in Christian Education.
Upon graduation from Texas A&M, John worked briefly on some political campaigns and served as a Legislative Aide in the Texas House of Representatives. John relocated to Houston in 1991, where he worked for the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council for 7 years before joining a national mall development company, The Mills Corporation, in 1998, as Director of Peripheral Development for Katy Mills. John also worked on mall projects in Denver, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh. John left commercial real estate in 2006 to attend seminary and was the Associate Minister of Pastoral Care at Houston’s First Baptist Church from 2006 through the summer of 2011, when he planted Covenant Church of Spring. Since 2022, John has served as the Advancement Director for Providence Classical School.
John is married to the love of his life, Heather, and they are blessed with three wonderful children: Caroline (2003), Graham (2005), and Turner (2008).
