A devotional message on 2 Samule 2:1-11 by John Young.

  1. We thought about our tendency to despise the day of small things. Can you think of any other examples from God’s dealing with the world or his church in which we can see how God works through small, unnoticeable things at the moment?

  2. If you get depressed at the apparent insignificance of some good work in which you are involved, how can you encourage yourself by what the Bible tells us about Christ’s return and the triumph of his kingdom?

  3. We thought about how the things we look forward to oftentimes fail to live up to the hype, or at least are delayed; and even in the Christian life, we live in this period of “already and not yet.” So if this is the case, how can we look forward to things and enjoy the gifts and joys of this life while at the same time not be disappointed?

  4. It was mentioned in the devotional how Paul encourages the Thessalonians with the promise of the coming of Jesus and there are references to it in almost every chapter. We were encouraged to find them. Here is the list of the references to the second coming of Christ that occur in each chapter:

1 Thessalonians: 1:10; 2:19; 3:11-13; 4:13-18; 5:23-24
2 Thessalonians: 1:7, 10; 2:8
