God’s comfort is his promise, which he keeps in Christ. It is surprising because it is offered to all people, it comes through the suffering of Christ, and it exposes our sin. And God’s people are those who gather to marvel at God’s comfort in Christ.

What good is it to have a king who weeps? In Psalm 6 King David’s sorrow in the face of God’s wrath points us to Jesus, the man of sorrows who bore our grief to the grave, and yet was accepted by God. In him we can grieve over sin with confidence that God forgives us and uses our suffering for our good.

The only way for sinners to enter this kingdom is by repentance and faith in Christ. Citizens of this kingdom seek God’s righteousness and persist in prayer.
